Your body shape and where you store excess weight can influence your health.

Excess weight around your waist or a 'pot belly' is a health risk. Waist measurement (regardless of height or build) impacts on your risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, sleep disorders and some cancers.

A person's genes can contribute to a pot belly - but you can still do something about it.

If you have a high waist measurement, here are some ways to reduce it:

  • Move more and sit less, be active every day
  • Swap sugary and fatty foods for vegetables, fruit and water
  • Limit your alcohol intake
